Paul Verhoevenin mystinen uutuus
RoboCopin, Basic Instinctin ja loistavan Black Bookin hollantilaisohjaaja Paul Verhoeven on omia suosikkejani, usein vulgaari mutta älykäs ja äärimmäisen taitava elokuvantekijä.
Olin suuresti yllättynyt, kun Cannesin market-puolella myytiin upouutta, valmista Verhoeven-elokuvaa. Luulin että olen seurannut ohjaajan uraa tarkasti, mutta hänpä oli ehtinyt tehdä jotain ihan uutta meiltä kaikilta salaa.
Mysteeriä vain pahensi, kun sain elokuvasta mainoksen sähköpostiini. Se on niin häkellyttävän kummallinen, että laitan sen tähän kokonaisuudessaan – rullaa ohi, jos röyhkeä spektaakkeli ei miellytä:
Some time ago, on a national TV channel, a well-known director deplored that the festivals selected only ” sad-films-which-finish-badly ”, and one could wonder how the selectors are selectionned…! I could observe this leading line ”more it is despairing, more it is beautiful” in many festivals, and I wondered how the jury could withstand it without a psychological unit… Even in the film ” The Class ”, we had the distressing spectacle of young people who did not get on, idem for the adults, idem for the young people and the adults, but it was the less despairing film of the selection…
In view of this sad showed liking of the festivals, some directors even come to make ”special festival” films, forgetting that the films are initially made for the public: for example, who went to see the Palme d’Or 2007 film and who remembers it, among the not-professionals? Who saw his life improved by this murky story of abortion?
For the distributors, the diffusers, the film-lovings, to base on the festivals to propose a film to the public, is thus not the panacea. Woody Alen pointed out, in Cannes 2008, that never one of his films had been in competition in any festival…
Where thus can you find what is susceptible to please the public? The answer exists: in the festivals, but in their section ”Film Market”, where the fact of not being selected in competition starts even to resemble to a quality label…
At the Film Market in Cannes 2009, we propose you a great film (Paul Verhoeven, 2009, France), at the same time dense, bold, dramatic, but with a positive message, where each one, young or less young, can learn a lesson to improve his personal life, to even rectify the failures of our society: there is not satisfied with denouncing situations, but solutions are proposed.
This film is called
” TEENAGERS ” : beside not very commendable teenagers, there exist some others, but who are never showed… Now, these young people can have a beneficial influence on the youths adrift, and even make them better. But sometimes it is necessary to agree to pay the full price, like the corn grain which must die to bear fruit… It is what this film shows, film at the same time dramatic and full with hope, inspired from real facts. The seven young actors (12 to 19 years) are more real than life, and the two adult stars are extraordinary in a role appearing made for them. A plus: even the not very advisable young people (of whom a sadist and a terrorist) end up being attractive. To discover!
The length of the film was reduced to a half compared to the original: there is thus a dense film, without idle periods. A synopsis will be given at the entry of the screening room, what will enable you to take the film on the way, even if you arrive at 07.00 PM or if you go away one moment to another screening. A DVD (double) of the film could be provided on the spot, on request.
Screenings: May 15 and 21, each time at 05.30 PM, in Palais F (level +3, on the left). To your diaries! NB : there are more places available on 21th. There are some naturism scenes, but abolutely legal.
Tämä varsinaisia kielikukkasia vilisevä sekoilu oli luonnollisesti omiaan herättämään todella suurta kiinnostusta. Mitä helvettiä oli tekeillä?
Teenagersin ensinäytökseen oli valtava tunku. Paikalla oli Hollywood-studioiden ostajia ja tyyppejä pienemmistä levitysyhtiöistä, kuten Oscilloscopen Adam Yauch, joka tunnetaan myös Beastie Boys-yhtyeen jäsenenä.
Arvoitus ratkesi suttuisesti videolle tehdyn leffan alkaessa. Hollywoodissa ohjanneella ja koko alan tuntemalla Paul Verhoevenilla ei ole mitään tekemistä tämän Teenagersin tehneen onnettoman tyypin kanssa.
Samanniminen ohjaaja oli katsonut parhaaksi, ettei tee suurta eroa maineikkaaseen kaimaansa.
Väärä Paul V. väitti kuitenkin olevansa sen oikean Paulin serkku.
