So, I think we can pretty much just skip the whole you pulling out of the Paris Agreement thing. Barack Obama, Emmanuel Macron, Michael Moore, Arnold and the rest of Twitter have basically said all there is to say.

Plus, you might think you’re pulling the United States out of the agreement, but the truth is you’re kind of not because many companies and over 75 cities across the country don’t give a shit what you say and plan to stick to the deal anyway.

This brings me to an important point though. Yesterday a friend of mine asked the question basically everyone on the planet is asking right now:

“Somebody please explain: How can one single man fuck up the whole world and nobody is doing anything about it?”

It’s a really good question with no really good answer.

As I just said, many states and cities are doing what they can to combat the damage you and the rest of the federal government are trying to do.

You try to impose a stupid, hateful and illegal travel ban, cities and states give you the finger with sanctuary cities that promise to protect instead of persecute.

You pull out of the Paris Agreement, many states and cities pull out their middle fingers again.

There’s only so much they can do, but at least they’re trying.

But my friend’s question was really more about actual citizens than cities.

“I don’t understand the apathy I’ve seen in many of the messages I’ve seen from my American friends. Nothing can be done. It’s all over for the next four years. It’s baffling. It’s like they’re in some mass depression.”

This part is easier to answer.

1.    HELL YES we’re depressed. Our country is being run by a sick, delusional madman and there really is nothing we can do about it. Nothing, zip, nada. You know that feeling when your house is really messy – like hoarder-style messy – and you really want to clean it up but instead you end up just sleeping on a pile of laundry because you can’t find your bed anymore? Well, that’s how most Americans feel right now. We’d love to do something about this, but so far the most effective thing we’ve come up with is knitting vaginas to wear on our heads.

2.    We’re acting like it’s all over for the next four years because it IS all over for the next four years. Or at the very least two years. With the senate and house controlled by the Republicans, the only course of action we really have is to vote the Republicans out of office in midterm congressional elections at the end of 2018 and in the next presidential election in 2020. And that’s not as easy as you might think. Remember, around half the population still thinks this shit circus is the best thing to happen to the US since we found out Justin Bieber is actually Canadian.

3.    Sadly, the US isn’t Finland and the government isn’t as close to the people or open to public participation as it is here. In other words, many (not all, but many) American politicians care way more about their own jobs, egos and careers than the people they’re elected to represent. And the two-party system and America’s HUGE, ABSOLUTELY TREMENDOUS size don’t help. When you live in a country as big as the US, it’s easy to feel small – because you are. Being a citizen in Finland is kind of like working for an agile company like Reaktor or Supercell. Right now being a citizen in the US is like being stuck in a dead-end job for 40 years before you retire and die.

So yeah, we are definitely depressed. We are definitely apathetic. And we definitely need help. Our house is a huge mess and we have no idea how to clean it up.

As world leaders turn their backs on our “leaders” – and honestly, we totally get it, so no hard feelings at all – maybe their citizens could get together to help us help ourselves? If anyone has any ideas, please, please, please let us know. We’re desperate.

Anybody?
