Dear Mom and Päivi Räsänen,

Today you were a guest on Radio Helsinki. You said that: “Equal marriage would contradict the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights.”

Actually Päivi, Article 16 states that:

•     (1) Men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to found a family. They are entitled to equal rights as to marriage, during marriage and at its dissolution. •    (2) Marriage shall be entered into only with the free and full consent of the intending spouses. •    (3) The family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the State.

You said that the Declaration defines that “all men and women have the right to enter into marriage” and that “it, too, defines marriage as the union of one man and one woman.”

But Päivi, those words were written in 1948 and you’re reading them in 2014. And if you read them carefully, you’ll actually notice that in fact nowhere does it define marriage as the union of one man to one woman. What it says is that “men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to found a family.”

So yes, I’m sure we can all agree that gay and lesbian people not yet of full age shouldn’t be allowed to marry. After all, kids are too young, stupid and immature to know what’s best for themselves, much less society.

Oh, and that reminds me of another thing that happened today. My best friend and her wife were invited to speak at an elementary school about their family. The kids were asked to anonymously write down questions before they got there.

One said: “I don’t have any questions. Because all people are who they are.

Kids can’t get married, but I sure as hell wish they could vote.

LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lissu
