Jewish-friendly Christmas recipe?

Dear Lissu,

Thank you so much for your letter.  However, it does make me feel a bit old.  Never in the history of mothers and daughters has the daughter ever said before attaining true maturity, ”you might have been right”.  And we all know true maturity only comes with age.  Therefore, if you are that old, what does that make me!!

About your old bedroom.  That might be a bit of a problem at the moment.  One of my neighbors wants to sell her apartment.  She is fixing it up to show it and she asked me if I could possibly store a few things of hers so it won’t look cluttered.  Let’s just say that the cartons she brought up are stacked neatly in your old bedroom.

New York is heading into the Christmas Season. OK, that’s not exactly true.  Many places have been fully decorated for Christmas since about a week after Halloween.   But we had stores opening on Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday (don’t ask – I have no idea why it’s called ”Black Friday”), so the shoppers are out in full force.  Me, I’m a cyber shopper.

Oh, before I forget – can you find a recipe for me to pay me back for shipping you off to Nakkila when you were 16?  It’s a cookie called, I think, lusikkaleivat.  I remember seeing them once at a Finnish Festival in Greenwich Village and they look very good to me. Any other interesting Jewish-friendly Christmas recipes would also be appreciated.

Let me know when you are tattoo-free.

Love, Mom
