It\u2019s happening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s only been two months since you and your spray tan machine moved into the White House and what I feared most is already happening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As I told you once before, after the election most of us felt completely helpless and hopeless. That said, it was clear from the start the there was no way we were just going to sit back and take a Donald Trump presidency without a fight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So we got together to #resist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was the Women\u2019s March on Washington, we flooded our local representatives with calls and mail, Meryl Streep made that speech<\/a> at the Golden Globes and we all felt a little better. A little.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But now, just two months in, you\u2019re way worse than any of us even imagined. And I\u2019m ashamed to admit this, but it\u2019s like the Borg said on Star Trek: Resistance is starting to feel futile<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People keep saying the resistance is actually working<\/a>, but no matter how many times we post the hashtag #notmypresident, last time I checked you still are. And with Republican majorities in both the House and the Senate<\/a>, the truth is there\u2019s not much any of us can do to stop you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We feel powerless because we are<\/em> powerless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s like you\u2019re Israel and the rest of us are those little Palestinian kids throwing rocks at your tanks. Yeah, we\u2019re cute and passionate about our cause, but the truth is those rocks don\u2019t do s**t. And neither do ours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I mean, seriously. Think about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You put a climate change denialist in charge of the Environmental Protection Agency, we flood his office<\/a> with phone calls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You set out to destroy the administrative state<\/a>, we tap that little \u201cwow\u201d emoji until our fingers hurt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You defund Planned Parenthood<\/a>, we wear vaginas<\/a> on our heads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You plan to take insurance away<\/a> from 24 million people and the only option we\u2019ll have is to die.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You spew alternative facts and wage war against the media, we follow Dan Rather<\/a> on Facebook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And lets face it, it\u2019s only a matter of time before there\u2019s a terrorist attack  – maybe even just a small one – and there\u2019s no doubt in my mind that you\u2019ll respond with World War III. Then what? More calls to our local representatives? Vagina gloves to go with our hats? Sigh\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it comes to the #resistance, you\u2019re our biggest problem. But you\u2019re not our only problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Politics is basically a battle of ideas. And the other problem we\u2019re facing is that the main idea behind the resistance is \u201cNot Trump\u201d. That\u2019s it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Democrats and progressives have never been more unified than we are in our opposition of you. But the most powerful movements is history have always been defined by what they\u2019re for<\/em>, not what they\u2019re against.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So as long as we\u2019re only resisting, you\u2019ve got us right where you want us – under your control. And you rub that in our faces in every tweet<\/a> and every press conference. I\u2019ll be honest with you, Donald, it\u2019s really depressing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The other day Bernie Sanders reminded us why we have to continue to fight<\/a>, no matter how bad things get.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAbsolutely these are very difficult and frightening times,\u201d he said. \u201cBut also understand that in moments of crisis, what has happened, time and time again, is that people have stood up and fought back. So despair is absolutely not an option.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I love Bernie, but he\u2019s wrong that despair is not an option. It most definitely is. But I guess no matter how bad it gets, it just can\u2019t be the only option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It just can\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
