{"id":211,"date":"2017-08-16T14:57:16","date_gmt":"2017-08-16T11:57:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/suomenkuvalehti.fi\/kirjeita-trumpille\/?p=211"},"modified":"2017-08-16T15:22:23","modified_gmt":"2017-08-16T12:22:23","slug":"us-headed-towards-civil-war","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/suomenkuvalehti.fi\/kirjeita-trumpille\/us-headed-towards-civil-war\/","title":{"rendered":"Is the US headed towards a civil war?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Everyone from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=E9TJsw67OmE\">Jimmy Fallon<\/a>, to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/theDanRather\/\">Dan Rather<\/a> to the mother of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=vXVTCDlAeo8\">Heather Heyer<\/a>, the woman killed last weekend in Charlottesville, have been talking about what Donald Trump has and hasn\u2019t been saying about what happened in Virginia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He refused to call out the alt-right and KKK. He talked about violence \u201con all sides\u201d. He never mentioned Heather Heyer by name. And last night came what many are calling the most <a href=\"http:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2017\/08\/15\/politics\/trump-news-conference-twitter\/index.html\">shocking words<\/a> to come out of Donald Trump\u2019s mouth so far &#8211; and God knows that\u2019s saying a lot. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>None of it matters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Demanding that Donald Trump condemn the alt-right and it\u2019s agenda makes about as much sense as someone whose husband beats the shit out of her staying because: \u201c<em>He says he loves me.<\/em>\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He doesn\u2019t. He never will. And if you don\u2019t find a way to get away, chances are you\u2019ll end up dead. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, that\u2019s all of us now. We\u2019re living with a crazy, violent bully and right now it feels like there\u2019s no way out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you haven\u2019t watched this video yet, you have to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/P54sP0Nlngg\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>Just like in every case of domestic violence, the first time is never the last time. What happened in Charlottesville last weekend was not and will not be an isolated event. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This might make me sound like I\u2019m crazy like Kanye, but I\u2019m just gonna\u2019 come out and say it: The US could well be heading towards a civil war. And at this point it feels like the only way out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With no historical precedent and limited by our laws and constitution, we\u2019re stuck with Donald Trump. \u201c<em>It\u2019s probably the end of the world and civilization as we know it, but hey there\u2019s just nothing we can do.<\/em>\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ask anyone who has lived through a civil war (Syrians, Ukrainians, ex-Yugoslavians etc.) and they\u2019ll probably tell you that until the shit really started hitting the fan, they didn\u2019t believe it ever would. They tried for as long as possible not to worry about politics and to focus on their lives, their kids, their jobs. Just like we\u2019re doing now. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the defining features of any legitimate state is the monopoly on the use of power and violence. That means trusting our leaders and our police to keep order. Most civil wars start when that trust is lost. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With Republicans in power and Democrats powerless, most people\u2019s trust in the government is already gone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That means the police are fast becoming the final fragile line between a civil society and true chaos. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oh yeah and hey, before I go, here&#8217;s a quick look at some of the highest-profile <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/news\/best-states\/louisiana\/articles\/2017-05-18\/a-look-at-high-profile-police-shootings-of-black-people\">killings of black people by white police<\/a>&#8230;..
