Press release of Saudi Arabian Embassy
The Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Helsinki, Finland wishes to clarify that the Government of Saudi Arabia welcomed his Excellency the Finnish Prime Minister Mr. Jyrki Katainen and his Excellency the Finnish Minister for Foreign Trade Mr. Alexander Stubb and the delegation accompanying them to Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia values the visit of Mr. Katainen for what in it of mutual interest for both friendly countries that based on fortifying and supporting of the long bilateral ties between them. The visit of Mr. Katainen and the delegation would have been a continuation of the visits exchanged by the high officials of the two countries, of which the important visit of Her Excellency the former President of the Republic of Finland Ms. Tarja Halonen to Saudi Arabia in October 2007, accompanied by His Excellency the Minister for Trade and Industry (then) Mr. Mauri Pekkarinen and a large delegation of Finnish businessmen. This visit then had a very good impact.
As it is very well known, Saudi Arabia is a hospitable country and always welcomes guests, but with the previously agreed upon engagements of the Saudi officials, arranging the right schedule that suits the timetable of Mr. Katainen’s visit to the region was not possible and Saudi Arabia preferred to book another time that suits both parties and to arrange this with the known diplomatic procedures.
The Embassy also appreciates and understands that His Excellency the Finnish Minister for Education Mr. Jukka Gustafsson could not visit Saudi Arabia to participate in the International Fair for Education due to His Excellency’s previously agreed upon engagements, which he expressed to the Saudi deputy minister during the visit of the latter to Finland last autumn, the Embassy wish to clarify that there is not link between this and arranging the Prime minister’s visit.
