Japan New Bullet Train
The new E5-type bullet train, sporting an extended nose, is unveiled to media Wednesday, June 17, 2009, in Rifu in Miyagi Prefecture, northern Japan. East Japan Railway Co. started testing Monday the high-speed train that can reach 320 kph (199 mph), the fastest ever by the Japanese bullet trains. With its 15-meter (49 feet)-long nose, designed to reduce air resistance and noise when it runs through tunnels, the new train is expected to link Tokyo and Shin-Aomori in the northern tip of Japan’s largest main island of Honshu, in three hours and five minutes, cutting down by 54 minutes, starting early 2013.
